Migratory Birds Play Vital Role In Ecological Balance: CM

LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 9th May, 2026) Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has said that beautiful and graceful migratory birds are a precious and unique gift of nature.
In her message on the occasion of World Migratory Bird Day, she said that birds arriving from distant regions enhance the beauty of nature and play an important role in maintaining ecological balance.
The CM said migratory birds also contribute to soil fertility, adding that protecting their natural habitat is essential for their conservation. She said that the Punjab Wildlife Department is actively working for the protection of migratory birds and other natural biological assets across the province.
She said that a crackdown is underway against illegal hunters, and effective steps are being taken to protect forests and wildlife habitats in Punjab.
She added that environmentally friendly, effective and sustainable measures are being implemented to address challenges faced by wildlife.
CM Maryam Nawaz said that government efforts have enabled the return of thousands of migratory birds including swans, swallows, flamingos and other species to Pakistan. She said that during special operations, more than 34,000 birds including cranes, falcons, houbara bustards, swans and waterfowls were recovered and released, while strict action was taken against illegal hunting.
She urged citizens to play their role as responsible individuals in protecting migratory birds and wildlife, adding that birds are a beautiful heritage of nature and their protection is a collective responsibility.
