ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 29th july, 2016) : Ministry of Human Rights has requested the Chief Commissioner Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) to direct the District Administration for sending all children found in beggary to National Child Protection Centre (NCPC). The Ministry of Human Rights was concerned with the prevailing situation of missing children reported from Punjab.
ICT Child Protection Law was also intact to ensure secure environment for the children where they could live with their free will, an official of Ministry of HR told APP. He informed it was observed that many children were involved in beggary and often seen on the roads/streets and traffic signals in the capital. These children were used by the professional beggars/mafias, and as a result, they become vulnerable to abuse, exploitation and experience violence.
The ministry also stressed upon taking legal action against the perpetrators/mafias for curbing this menace. He explained that the National Child Protection Centre (NCPC) was working on providing protection support to vulnerable and at risk children, ranging from tracing, family-reunification, temporary shelter Services for rehabilitation, reintegration, non-formal education and skill enhancement for children from marginalized and children of un-reached segments of the society.
The services of NCPC were in place since March, 2007 and since its inception, it had so far reunified more than 3500 children. Almost half of these children came back to the center after once being unified, he said.
