NA Adopts Resolution To Extend SLIC Ordinance For 120 Days

ISLAMABAD,(UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 3rd Augst,2016) : The National Assembly on Wednesday adopted a resolution to extend the State Life Insurance Corporation (SLIC) (Reorganization and Conversion) Ordinance, 2016 for a period of 120 days further. 6th August was moved by Minister for Inter- Provincial Coordination Mian Riaz Hussain Pirzada on behalf of the Commerce Minister in the House under proviso to sub-paragraph (ii) of paragraph (a) of clause (2) of Article 89 of the Constitution.
Responding to points raised by Syed Naveed Qamar and Dr. Shireen Mazari, Minister for Law and Justice Zahid Hamid said the government could extend period of the ordinance under the constitution.
He said the ordinance was pending before the standing committee and the government was not intentionally delaying it. He also urged the Chairman Standing Committee concerned to expedite the process in this regard. Earlier, Naveed Qamar and Dr. Shireen Mazari asked for reasons to extend the period of the ordinance.
