PEMRA Takes Action To Stop Indecent Advertisements On TV Channels: Ranjha

ISLAMABAD,(UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 5th Augst,2016) : Parliamentary Secretary for Information, Broadcasting and National Heritage Mohsin Ranjha Friday informed the National Assembly that Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) took prompt action to stop indecent advertisements against our norms and values on tv channels under the relevant laws. Replying to a Calling Attention Notice raised by Asiya Naz Tanoli regarding indecent advertisements on private TV channels despite monitoring system of PEMRA, he said that the PEMRA not only issued notices and warnings to the TV channels for airing indecent advertisements against the societal norms and values of the country but also imposed fine.
He said PEMRA always took action against advertisements in which element of obscenity or vulgarity was found.
Some advertisement were also edited, he added PEMRA also took action against those TV channels which violated the set rules under the laws, he said. He, however, said that there was a need to define common decency which was compatible with norms of our society.
