MULTAN, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 23th August, 2016) : French, German and Russian literatures have vast readerships all over the world because quality translations are available, said prolific writer, scholar and playwright, Prof Mirza Athar Baig. He added that for appreciation of our indigenous literary works, quality translations are required. Mira Athar Baig spoke his mind while addressing an interactive dialogue at an evening with him at English department of Bahauddin Zakariya University (BZU) in collaboration with Media Lyceum, a literary society. Connected to this, international publishers' considerations became the subject of debate in the event, he said.
Baig pointed out that in the absence of quality translations; international publishers picked only those writers whose themes suited their ideologies.
Mirza Athar Baig, who is considered to be a post-modernist fiction writer, shared his literary experiences with a group of people interested in literature, philosophy and psychology on contemporary trends. Prof Khalid Saeed, who presided the event, highlighted the significance of Mirza Athar Baig's personality and his works' impact on modern readers.
Dr. Naveed Ahmad Chaudhry, Chairman, Department of English, concluded the ceremony by stressing the importance of such dialogues in the contemporary world. "We are surrounded by stressful situation", he said. For seeking refuge, we should look towards art and philosophy," Dr Naveed said.
