Special attention being paid towards health, education: CM Qaim

KARACHI, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 21th july, 2016) : Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah has said that special attention is being given to social sector particularly health and education. This he said while talking to US Consul General Brian Heath, new Political/Economic Chief in Consulate Edward Burkhalter and outgoing Political/Economic Chad Peterson who called on him here Thursday.

Provincial Health Minister Jam Mehtab Dahar was also present on the occasion. The Consul General and the Chief Minister discussed the matters pertaining to Jacobabad Institute of Medical Sciences (JIMS) to improve its performance.

The hospital building has been constructed worth the $20 million under USAID programme. It has started functioning but only recruitment of specialists (doctors) is to be made. The chief minister told the Consul General the issuance of offer letters are in the pipeline.

He directed Health Minister to ensure issuance of offer letters within next two days.

Syed Qaim Ali Shah constituted a working group comprising Health Minister Jam Mehtab Dahar and Political/Economic Chief of US Consulate Edward Burkhalter to improve the performance of the hospital. Sindh Municipal Services Delivery Programme (MSDP) and Sindh Basic Education Programme (SBEP) were also discussed in the meeting.

Under the USAID funded MSDP improvement of municipal infrastructure, water supply, sanitation and solid waste management in six selected towns of the province worth $66 million UDAID contribution as grant. In the first phase Jacobabad town has been taken up by USAID for municipal infrastructure up-gradation at an estimated cost of $35 million.

The water supply scheme in Jacobabad for $20 million is in the progress and would be completed by June 2017. The chief minister said that this would be a great contribution of the US government towards the people of Sindh, particularly of Jacobabad.
