Three-day Shandur Polo Festival Starts

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 29th july,2016) : Three-day Shandur Polo festival kicked off Friday as thousands visitors thronged this highest Polo ground for enjoying the sport. Played on the horseback with players hitting a ball with a mallet - the Polo sports - had originated from this very region decades back and is considered to be an expensive sport.
Polo teams from Gilgit-Baltistan and Chitral are participating in this event and the final match would be played on Sunday. The Shandur polo festival this year, has been organized after a three-year hiatus. Nestled amid the Hindukush Mountains, the Shandur polo ground is situated at 12500 feet above sea level. A camp village would be set up till July 31 at the venue where tourists and locals would reside and take part in activities like paragliding, traditional dance and songs.
