Upto 25,000 MW Electricity To Be Produced By 2018: Younas Dhaga

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 28th july, 2016) : Secretary for Water and Power Younas Dhaga has said electricity generation capacity would be enhanced upto 25,000 Megawatt by 2018 to meet growing energy demands in the country. Talking to a private news channel, he said heavy investments have been made to improve transmission and distribution system of electricity.
He said an amount of Rs. 56 billion have been invested during three years in transmission and distribution system to improve its functioning. Due to improvement in the distribution system, 17,500 MW electricity was supplied during Ramazan throughout the country, he said.
He said maximum power requirement in 2016 remained at 23,000 MW while we had produced 17,500 MW electricity in the same period. Viewing the energy demands in 2018, many projects are underway in the country to fulfil demand and supply gap, he said adding the government was fully focused to eliminate power load- shedding.
"Projects of 11,400 MW are underway in many areas of the country that would fill current power shortfall and meet future demands", he added.
