US CG Lauds Pak's Efforts In Promotion Of Education

SUKKUR, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 17th Nov, 2016 ) : U.S Consul General Grace W. Shelton on Thursday paid a visit to Shah Abdul Latif University (SALU), Khairpur and said education was the source of progress and economic development of any country and that the future of Pakistan was bright because of tremendous efforts made for the promotion of education.
USA is partner of Pakistan in terms of technology, education, community engagement, energy sector and skill development, she said while addressing a gathering at SALU campus. She said youth of Pakistan had great potential.
We were committed for peaceful and democratic Pakistan in the comity of the nations. Ms. Shelton said education was key to social, economic and capacity building of any nation. The promotion of education was the top priority of USA for Pakistan and especially for Sindh, she added.
The Consul General said 106 schools had been constructed with the generous support and funding of USA. We had provided Wi-Fi system in approximately 100 higher educational institutions in Pakistan aimed at to equip the youth with latest mode of technology.
More than 9000 Pakistani students were enrolled in USA every year.
7000 girls were enrolled for non-formal education in Pakistan with the support of USA. Under exchange program, 1100 students had been enrolled in USA last year, she added.
She further said USA was also providing ample opportunity to Pakistani students in pursuit of Fulbright Scholarships, adding efforts were underway for the capacity building and skill development for Pakistanis.
Professor Dr Noor Ahmed Shaikh said United States through USAID was helping Pakistani children and youths in the pursuit of education. He said USAID had constructed and repaired more than 1000 schools across Pakistan and trained over 20,000 teacher and school administrators and provided more than 17,000 scholarship for talented and financially disadvantage students besides improving the reading skills of over 400,000 Primary school students.
US was supporting Pakistan in improving basic education and cultivating a culture of higher education in Pakistan.
