US CG visits Sindh wind corridor

KARACHI, Dec 1 (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 01st Dec, 2016 ) : U.S. Consul General Grace Shelton visited and met with wind energy professionals at the Sindh Wind Corridor in Jhampir, Thatta here on Thursday.

The CG Shelton visited Sapphire Wind Power Project, USAID grid station, and Kheenjar Lake, said a statement. "The Sindh Wind Corridor shows the vital role renewable energy can play in helping Pakistan solve its energy crisis," said U.S.

Consul General Grace Shelton. "The United States continues to strongly support Pakistan's efforts to expand clean energy to foster economic development", he remarked. At Sapphire Wind Power Project, she learned from Project Site Manager Danish Hanif how Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC) has funded and contributed to 50 megawatts of renewable energy to Pakistan's national grid.

The National Transmission and Dispatch Company (NTDC) grid station is also the site of major U.S. government support - USAID support of $43 million will facilitate the creation of a 680 megawatt link.

While visiting Kheenjhar Lake, Pakistan's second largest fresh water lake, CG Shelton appreciated World Wildlife Foundation (WWF) and the work they have done for wildlife conservation and sustainable economic development.
