Indian Air Force exercise not conducive to regional peace, stability: Prof Cheng

BEIJING, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 23rd Jul, 2025) The large-scale exercise conducted by the Indian Air Force along the India-Pakistan border areas under current situation is not conducive to regional peace and stability, Prof. Cheng Xizhong, Senior Research Fellow at the Charhar Institute said on Wednesday.

While commenting on three-day air exercise by IAF in Rajasthan near border with Pakistan, he said that first of all, the India-Pakistan border areas have always been sensitive areas, with long-standing tensions between the two sides. The frequent sorties of Indian fighter jets constitute a provocative act, which is not conducive to maintaining peace along the India-Pakistan border areas and will also affect the security and stability of the entire South Asian region.

Secondly, the Indian air force exercise may force Pakistan to take countermeasures, further exacerbating tensions between India Pakistan, he added.

Thirdly, he said, the regional tensions will have a negative impact on economic development and social well-being.

The commercial activities and tourism industry in the border areas will be impacted by the unstable situation, and investors will also reduce their investment in the region due to security concerns, which is not conducive to the prosperity and development of the regional economy, thus affecting the foundation of regional peace and stability.

The fourth point is that conducting the large-scale air force exercise in the border areas during the sensitive period is not good for India itself. This will further expose India's true face of disrupting peace and affect its international image. At the same time, it is not conducive to India's normal diplomatic interaction and regional cooperation with neighboring countries, which will deteriorate the atmosphere of regional cooperation and hinder the process of regional peace and development, he concluded.
