ISLAMABAD,(UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News -26th Augst,2016) : Though Eid-ul-Azha is still three weeks away, livestock owners have started to reach in twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad with herds of sacrificial animals, expecting several people will prefer to buy these well ahead of the Eid festival. Now sale-perchase of sacrificial animal can be seen in the twin city ahead of Eid-ul-Azha. A buyer Ali Majeed said while purchasing an animal, "My childerens insisted me to buy animal soon because they enjoy passing time with sacrificial animal.
They take care of them and decorate them with beautiful accessories." A livestock owner Kaleem Anaam said while selling an animal,"I have sold 7 animals out of 20, this time prices are higher then last year beacuse of high rates of feed, vaccination and transportation." According to a random market survey, vendors are leaving a very narrow bargaining margin for buyers.
They are acting as a cartel by keeping the price of low weight goats at Rs 18,000- 22,000. For a pair of goats they demand Rs 35,000-45,000. Animal sellers are charging higher prices for goats keeping in view the rising red meat prices in the current year.
The price of mutton hovers between Rs 750-780 per kg. A businessman Salman Najam said, "Sacrificial animal are arrived in market, but to fear of congo virus I am avoiding its purchase, I am plaing to go for online Qurbani service".
A seller said they inject medicine to protect their animals from malaria and fever since the disease kills more of their animals than the Congo virus. "This is the first time I have heard about this disease," he said, however, he was very sure that their animals are free of ticks, despite never having been vaccinated or formally treated". Meanwhile the Directorate of Municipal Administration, Enforcement and Environment Wing of Metropolitan Carporation Islamabad (MCI) and CDA has been directed to ensure that there will be no illegal sale/purchase of sacrificial animals in other parts of the city except the approved site, which has been auctioned for temporary Municipal Cattle Market.
DMA has been directed to ensure effective monitoring for charging the prescribed entry fee for all kind of sacrificial animals so that the people could buy the sacrificial animals of their choice without any hassle in prices at the temporary Municipal Cattle Market.
