QUETTA, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 5th May, 2026) The Balochistan Food Authority (BFA) has intensified its province-wide operations to ensure the supply of safe and quality food to citizens. In its latest crackdown, strict action was taken against food businesses in Quetta, Pishin, Loralai, Dera Allah Yar, and Gwadar.

Food safety teams carried out detailed inspections of milk shops, grocery stores, baking units, snack manufacturing facilities, bakeries, restaurants, hotels, pizza outlets, milkshake points, fast food centers, and poultry shops.

The inspections revealed serious violations, including poor hygiene, use of substandard and harmful ingredients, improper food storage, expired items, and negligence in workers’ personal cleanliness.

As a result, fines were imposed on 42 food businesses, three units were sealed, and 49 corrective notices were issued to owners, directing them to immediately rectify deficiencies.

According to BFA officials, no compromise will be made on food quality, and violators will face indiscriminate action. The authority’s spokesperson noted that the largest operation was conducted at Quetta’s Kuchlak Bypass, where three restaurants were sealed for grave breaches of food safety laws.

Violations included extremely poor sanitation, uncovered food items, use of non-food grade materials, improper handling and storage, presence of cockroaches in refrigerators, mixing of cooked and raw food, absence of pest control systems, open garbage bins, use of monosodium glutamate (Chinese salt), and unhygienic cooking oil.

Other penalized restaurants were found guilty of using non-food grade colors, maintaining dirty refrigerators, improper storage, open flour and waste bins, and failing to follow basic hygiene standards.

The BFA has directed all food business operators to strictly comply with food safety laws and hygiene principles. Officials warned that further violations will result in harsher penalties, including sealing of establishments.

The authority reaffirmed its commitment to protecting public health, stating that such crackdowns will continue without interruption across the province.
