Balochistan Moves Toward Digital Reforms In Health Sector

QUETTA, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 14th Jul, 2025) Balochistan Minister for Health, Bakht Muhammad Kakar, announced a significant initiative to digitize the province’s healthcare system in an effort to streamline medical services and improve access to essential supplies. The move aims to enhance the quality of care available to citizens and modernize infrastructure across the region.

Speaking at the closing session of a two-day consultative seminar on healthcare reforms in Quetta, Minister Kakar emphasized that the provision of medicine in government hospitals will now be integrated into a digital and AI-powered system, a significant first step toward technological transformation in the health sector.

Addressing key challenges such as absenteeism, corruption, and inefficiency, he declared a strict zero-tolerance policy moving forward.

“There is no longer any room for non-performance,” he said. “Public servants must deliver, as their salaries are funded by taxpayers who deserve reliable medical treatment.

”

The minister revealed that several key projects are underway, including a state-of-the-art 200-bed trauma center in Quetta nearing inauguration, kidney transplantation services at BINUQ, the establishment of NICVD Hospital with support from PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and completed merit-based hiring for thousands of long-vacant positions in health department.

Additionally, the government has expanded the health card facility across the province and increased its funding allocated in the budget for the fiscal year 2025–26.

Minister Kakar stressed the importance of updated medical equipment, professional training, and fully functional healthcare centers. He stated that modern medical facilities would be made available in hospitals throughout Balochistan to ensure better healthcare access for all citizens.

Health officials from all districts including District Health Officers (DHOs), Medical Superintendents (MSs), and pharmacists were participated in the seminar.
