SARGODHA, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 16th Dec, 2025) Commissioner Sargodha Division, Jehanzaib Awan, has emphasized that Jamia Mosque, Block No. 1, is the city’s oldest building and its first place of worship, and preserving its historical identity in its original form is a collective responsibility.

He expressed these views while chairing a review meeting here on Tuesday regarding the restoration of the mosque to its original structure.

The meeting was attended by Chief Officer Municipal Corporation Majid Bin Ahmed, Managing Director Parks and Horticulture Authority Muhammad Arshad, Administrator Auqaf Ghulam Mustafa, along with other concerned municipal officials.

The Commissioner stated that any illegal construction or encroachment around the mosque would not be tolerated under any circumstances. He described the mosque as the first house of worship in the city and stressed that its protection is a shared obligation.

Directing the Auqaf Department, Commissioner Jehanzaib Awan instructed that a detailed assessment of the mosque be conducted and a restoration scheme be proposed under the Annual Development Programme (ADP) to ensure effective repair of its dilapidated portions.

He also expressed concern over shops constructed beneath the mosque and past constructions, terming them detrimental to the mosque’s structure and sanctity.

During the meeting, various proposals for restoring the mosque’s original design were discussed.

The Commissioner further directed the Chief Officer Municipal Corporation, Administrator Auqaf, Managing Director PHA, and Director Development to jointly visit the site and submit a comprehensive report with recommendations on construction, repair, and restoration.

The report will form the basis for future action to safeguard the historic and religious significance of the mosque.
