Hospitals Management Asked To Take Dengue Preventive Measures

ISLAMABAD,(UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 8th Augst,2016) : The Ministry of Capital Administration and Development Division (CAAD) has directed the heads of public sector hospitals in the Federal capital to make all necessary arrangements to tackle the dengue patients in this high risk season. According official sources, a plan has been chalked out for dealing with the disease and the hospital managements have been directed to complete preparations well before receiving any case of dengue hemorrhagic fever in the federal capital hospitals. The ministry asked to thoroughly examine the existing facilities, further help and assistance if required and inform the ministry to finalize a proper procedure as a precautionary measure. It directed that adequate arrangements like reservation of special and netted beds, diagnosis facilities and availability of necessary medicines should be ensure. They said the ministry has directed the officials concerned to issue instructions to the public sector educational institutions for taking precautionary measures against the dengue virus. They said that the administration must take steps for fumigation and students must be educated to take protective measures in this season.
It urged for creating awareness among the students and general public in this connection. Sources said that if any citizen has dengue like symptoms, than he or she should immediate come to the nearest hospital for complete investigation and treatment of the disease.
They said that the ministry also advised the citizens to take extra care in these days as more people can have chances of carrying dengue virus due to rainy season.
It asked the parents to follow precautionary measures particularly for their school going children, who are more vulnerable to this virus. A public health expert Dr Wasim Khawaja from Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) said that the complications of dengue fever are depression, chronic fatigue, pneumonia, bone marrow failure, iritis, orchitis, and variety of neurological complications. He said that citizens must control mosquitoes by screening and insect repellents, particularly during early morning and late afternoon exposures. He said that continuous abdominal pain with vomiting, a decrease in the level of consciousness and hypothermia lead to concern about dengue shock syndrome. He said that dengue fever is usually a non-specific, self- limited biphasic febrile illness, but its presentation may range from asymptomatic to severe hemorrhagic fever. He added fatal shock like dengue shock syndrome and severe dengue begins with a sudden onset of high fever, chills, and breakbone aching of head, back and extremities accompanied by sore throat, prostration and malaise.
