ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 18th Nov, 2016 ) : First Secretary and Consul of the embassy of the Republic of Korea In Kook Kim on Friday said that South Korea is keen to strengthen cultural relations with Pakistan.
The diplomat said this during his visit to the National Institute of Folk and Traditional Heritage, popularly known as Lok Virsa, here on Friday. He also called on Lok Virsa Executive Director Dr Fouzia Saeed and discussed ways to strengthen cooperation and increase cultural exchanges between the two countries, said a press release.
They agreed on joint cooperation in organizing cultural programmes to promote various facets of Korean and Pakistani cultures. "Pakistan is known for its rich and diverse cultural heritages and cradle of three ancient civilizations like Gandhara, Indus and Mehrgarh," the diplomat said.
Pakistan is a major destination and attraction for religious tourists, especially for those from Fareast Asian countries including Korea and Japan who visit Buddhist sacred places.
He appreciated Lok Virsa's role in promoting Pakistan's cultural diversity and its soft image in the world.
Earlier Lok Virsa ED briefed the diplomat about Pakistan's cultural diversity and her organization's initiatives in promoting them. She said Lok Virsa has started screening classic movies of Pakistan and other countries through its Mandwa Film Club on every Saturday.
"We are also planning to screen foreign feature and cultural films so that Pakistani audience could know about the culture and life of other countries," she said. An award winning Iranian film will be screened in near future, Dr Saeed said.
A musical event has been scheduled on November 27 in connection with the independence Day of Gilgit-Baltistan to highlight the unique mountain culture of Gilgit Baltistan. The Korean diplomat was keen to attend the programmes.
He urged Lok Virsa ED to also screen Korean cultural and feature films so that Pakistanis could become abreast of the culture, lifestyle and economic development of Korea.
