Hr said plans are being developed to convert Nishtar Hall Peshawar into a specialized academy for performing arts and music education.
He mentioned that no cultural events have been held at Nishtar Hall for several years, which is undoubtedly a disservice to the arts.
Addressing a meeting held in his office regarding the Abaseen Arts Council, the Secretary of Culture and Tourism said that work is being done to design various courses related to fine arts, music and musical instruments, drama, theater, and literature.
This will allow the hall’s infrastructure to be utilized positively. He added that this initiative will help educated and skilled artists emerge at both provincial and national levels.
The meeting was attended by Director General of the Culture and Tourism Authority, Arif Habib, Ajmal Khan, General Manager Culture, and other officials.
Meanwhile, the President of Abaseen Arts Council, Abdul Rauf Rohaila, Dr. Nazeer Tabassum, and others provided a detailed briefing on the council’s affairs.
The Secretary of Culture and Tourism urged the council members to expand membership to include skilled individuals from across the province, as the current council has very few members, most of whom are from Peshawar.
He emphasized the need to develop a mechanism to ensure representation from all districts of the province so their work can gain recognition.
Dr. Abdul Samad further said that steps will be taken to make Nishtar Hall a hub for cultural activities, providing a platform not only for local artists but also promoting arts education in the province.
The goal of this project is to skill the youth and reduce unemployment challenges. This initiative is expected to breathe new life into fine arts education not just in Peshawar but across the entire province.
