Mangroves Plantation Launched

KARACHI, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 3rd August, 2016) : The launching ceremony of Mangroves plantation campaign to plant around 10,000 to 15,000 mangroves saplings at Kangwari Islands near Port Qasim in the jurisdiction of Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) LPG-Terminal was held here on Wednesday. The plantation drive is being jointly organised by SSCG and IUCN - International Union for Conservation of Nature, said a statement issued here. Children from a local school were specially invited for this plantation ceremony who also planted the saplings.
According to the MOU signed between SSCG and IUCN, both the organizations will also raise awareness about the importance of the mangroves. AGM (CCD) SSGC Ms. Shahbaz islam, IUCN Coastal Ecosystem Expert, Tahir Qureshi also addressed the launching ceremony. Later, NRM Coordinator-Sea Intrusion, Dr.
Babar Hussain briefed the visiting delegates about the mangroves and its benefits.
