
Multan Museum Ready To Open It's Doors,says DG Archaeology

MULTAN, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 18th Oct, 2025) Director General(DG)Archeology Punjab Zaheer Abbas Malik on Saturday announced the completion of the Multan Museum,saying that the newly constructed facility will soon be inaugurated and opened to the public as a major cultural and recreational landmark of South Punjab.
During his visit to the site,the DG reviewed different sections of the newly completed museum and expressed satisfaction over the quality of work.However issued certain instructions to beautify the museum.
He said the department of Archeology and Museums was committed to preserving Punjab’s ancient heritage and introducing it to the world through modern means.
“We are actively working to promote archeology and culture ”Malik said. “Our department is not only conserving historical sites but also digitizing cultural assets to make Pakistan’s heritage globally accessible.”
He further informed that Punjab currently has 419 protected archaeological sites,while several new locations are under exploration and conservation.“In Mianwali,remains of a temple have recently been discovered inside a mountain, and we are taking steps to secure and preserve it,” he added.
The DG described the Multan Museum as a center of knowledge and culture,reflecting the city’s deep-rooted historical identity.“This museum will connect the people of South Punjab with their glorious past and serve as an educational and recreational space for future generations,”he maintained.
According to official documents displayed at the site,the development of Museum at Multan project has been completed with 97 percent financial utilization.
The total approved cost of the scheme was Rs111.70 million,of which Rs.108 million have been used up to June 2025.
The scheme was implemented under the Tourism,Archeology and Museum department,Government of the Punjab.
The museum building covers 8,554 square feet and includes several galleries such as Numismatic,Art and Craft, Ethnological, Archaeological, and Audio-Video galleries.
Facilities also include showcases,a cafeteria,public toilets,parking area,boundary walls,gates and ticketing booths.
Officials confirmed that all construction and finishing work has been completed and the site was ready for its formal inauguration soon.
DG Malik said that the establishment of the museum marks a historic achievement for the region,providing citizens and visitors an opportunity to explore the region’s ancient heritage under one roof.“Multan,being one of the oldest living cities in South Asia, now has a museum that truly represents its timeless identity,”he concluded. On this occasion,SDO Muhammad Sajjad,Sub Engineer Amir Saleem and others were also present.
