MULTAN, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 4th August, 2016) : The district administration has started operation to remove encroachments from all the flood protection embankments in the district after completion of a survey and efforts were afoot to strengthen them further. DCO Nadir Chatha said in a statement on Friday that hundreds of illegally built homes, shops and cattle pens were demolished and protection Bunds (flood protection barriers) were being strengthened for safety of people in riverine areas, says an official release issued here Friday. Chatha said inspection of flood protection Bund in Jalalpur Pirwala, Shujabad and Multan Sadar areas had been completed.
Water level in the river Chenab passing through Multan suggests that there was no flood threat in the district for now, the DCO said. He added that district government was equipped with boats, medicines and camps while Rescue 1122, civil defence, health and police personnel have already undergone necessary training to respond swiftly in case of floods. Meanwhile, Assistant Commissioner Sadar Ata Ul Haq supervised operation against encroachment at flood protection Bund in his jurisdiction and restored them to their original form today.
