Pb Govt Keen To Achieve Plantation Target: Minister

LAHORE(UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 2nd Augst,2016) -Provincial Minister for Forests, Wildlife and Fisheries,Malik Asif said Punjab government would utilise all its resources to achieve the target of planting 9 million saplings during current monsoon season. He said this while talking to media here at his office on Tuesday.The minister said that Punjab government, in order to make the afforestation campaign successful, was following an effective and comprehensive policy with the participation of farmers. Malik Asif said that modern technology would also be utilized to make this campaign result-oriented,adding that the saplings survival would be monitored through Geographic Information System.
"Pakistan cannot cope with climate risks particularly floods and torrential rains which have become increasingly frequent due to global warming--without increasing tree cover",he added. However,he said the government could not achieve this target without the participation of civil society and appealed for public cooperation in order to meet plantation targets,stated official spokesman. It may be mentioned that Federal government has set a target of planting 109 saplings under Prime Minister's five year Green Pakistan Programme.More than 35.8 million saplings of different plants would be planted across the country during the ongoing monsoon season.
