
PDMA Warns Of Glacial Lake Outburst Floods In Upper Areas

PESHAWAR, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 16th Jul, 2025) Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) have warned of an increased risk of Glacial Lake Outburst Floods (GLOFs) and flash flood events in the province's vulnerable glaciated regions including Chitral, Dir Upper, Swat and Kohistan Upper.
Through a letter to Deputy Commissioners concerned, PDMA has urged authorities to take all necessary precautionary measures to avoid any potential loss of life, livestock and damage to infrastructure or crops.
Key safety directives include enhanced monitoring and surveillance of vulnerable GLOF sites to ensure timely early warning, improved coordination among relevant authorities and raising awareness within local communities.
