SARGODHA: (UrduPoint/UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News-July 22nd, 2025) An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Sargodha has sentenced Punjab Assembly Opposition Leader Malik Ahmed Khan Bhachar and 70 other Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) supporters to 10 years in prison each over their involvement in the violent events of May 9, 2023.
The verdict was issued in case number 72/2023, which was registered at Mosa Khel Police Station in Mianwali. The FIR included charges under anti-terrorism laws related to vandalism, arson, and inciting riots during protests that erupted following the arrest of PTI founder Imran Khan.
According to court proceedings, the accused were found guilty of damaging public property, setting buildings on fire, and creating unrest.
The ATC handed down the punishment after thorough examination of the evidence, witness statements and police reports.
The sentencing of Bhachar, a senior PTI figure and sitting member of the Punjab Assembly, may lead to his disqualification and removal from his legislative position. The legal experts suggested that the conviction could result in his de-seating under electoral laws.
