ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 21st Jul, 2025) As rain continues to pour in Islamabad, the district administration has intensified monitoring efforts across the city and Deputy Commissioner Islamabad, Irfan Nawaz Memon, has issued directives to ensure the safety of residents and maintain smooth traffic flow during the wet spell.
According to the spokesman of ICT administration, light to moderate rainfall continues in various areas of Islamabad, prompting the district administration to increase its field activities.
In this regard, Deputy Commissioner Islamabad, Irfan Nawaz Memon, has directed all Assistant Commissioners to visit low-lying areas within their respective jurisdictions to assess the situation and address any potential risks.
According to the district administration, the monitoring of seasonal streams, drains, and nullahs is ongoing across the Federal capital to prevent any overflow or urban flooding. Special teams have been mobilized to ensure that water flow remains unobstructed, particularly in areas prone to water accumulation.
Meanwhile, in a statement, Deputy Commissioner Memon emphasized the need for coordination with the traffic police to prevent congestion on major roads and ensure that traffic movement remains uninterrupted during the rain. The Islamabad Traffic Police has been tasked with deploying additional personnel at key locations to manage traffic flow and assist motorists.
The administration has also urged citizens to adopt precautionary measures during the rainy weather. Residents living in low-lying areas have been advised to remain alert and avoid unnecessary travel.
The DC further called on the public to report any emergency situation or blocked drains to the relevant authorities for immediate action.
Monitoring teams are actively inspecting different sectors, especially areas with a history of waterlogging. The district administration said that it is in close contact with the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) and other municipal bodies to clear any obstructions in drainage systems and prevent water accumulation.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecasted continued rainfall in Islamabad and surrounding regions over the next few days. In light of the forecast, the district administration has placed all relevant departments on alert to deal with any potential emergencies.
Deputy Commissioner Memon reiterated the importance of collective efforts between government agencies, traffic police, and residents to minimize the impact of the ongoing rain. He also reassured citizens that the administration is fully prepared to handle any situation that may arise.
Citizens can contact the district control room in case of emergencies or seek assistance through the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Administration's helpline. The administration has committed to keeping the public updated on weather conditions and safety advisories through official communication channels.
Authorities continue to inspect critical points in the city, including underpasses, bridges, and main roads, to ensure they remain accessible and safe for commuters.
The district administration has pledged to maintain round-the-clock monitoring until the weather conditions improve.
