'

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 16th Jul, 2025) A leading Urologist Wednesday urged to increase public awareness and undergo screening for kidney failure and urinary tract infections triggered by insufficient water consumption and poor nutrition, highlighting the importance of early diagnosis and treatment.

Dr. Sharjeel Saulat, urologist at Tabba Kidney Institute Hospital Karachi, in an exclusive conversation with a local news channel, explained that kidney diseases can sometimes be genetic, affecting even infants as young as two to three months old.

He emphasized that early detection is crucial for managing these conditions effectively and preventing long-term complications.

He further highlighted that in areas where children do not receive proper nutrition, malnutrition plays a significant role in the development of kidney diseases, adding, poor feeding practices and lack of essential nutrients weaken the body’s defenses, making young children more vulnerable to urinary tract infections and kidney failure.

Dr. Saulat urged the public and healthcare providers to focus on improving nutritional standards and increasing awareness about the risks of kidney diseases in children.

He stressed that timely screening and proper care can help reduce the burden of these serious health issues, especially in underprivileged communities.

Dr. Sharjeel Saulat stressed the vital importance of drinking adequate amounts of water daily to maintain kidney health and prevent urinary tract infections.

He explained that insufficient water intake can lead to dehydration, which puts extra strain on the kidneys and increases the risk of infections and kidney failure. Staying well-hydrated helps the kidneys flush out toxins and reduces the chances of developing serious complications.

He urged people of all ages to make drinking water a regular habit, especially in hot climates like Karachi where dehydration is more common. Dr. Saulat emphasized that alongside proper nutrition, adequate hydration is one of the simplest yet most effective ways to protect kidney function and promote overall well-being.

Talking about the symptoms, Dr. Sharjeel Saulat said that only about 50% of people experience pain, while the rest have silent symptoms that often go unnoticed.

He emphasized that if anyone is facing nausea or stomach issues, they should not ignore these signs and must undergo an ultrasound and proper screening to detect any underlying kidney problems early.
