PRAIA, Cape Verde, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 28th july, 2016) - Cape Verde's President Jorge Carlos Fonseca has announced he is running for a new five-year term in the next presidential election scheduled for October 2. "I am a candidate," the 65-year-old head of state said during a ceremony late Wednesday, in a move that suspends his presidential duties in line with the constitution.
Parliament speaker Jorge Pedro Mauricio dos Santos will step into his shoes until the poll. Fonseca, a member of the liberal MPD party, was elected in 2011 with more than 54 percent of the vote, and remains popular.
