Dallas, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 8th july, 2016) : On Thursday, thousands of demonstrators peacefully marched in places around the country to protest the police shootings of Alton Sterling in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and Philando Castile in Falcon Heights, Minnesota, one protest in Dallas, Texas, was unexpectedly intermittent by bombardment of bullets.
A day earlier, Alton Sterling was shot in Louisiana after being pinned to the pavement by two white officers. Dallas Police Chief David Brown claimed that two snipers allegedly opened fire at police officers from eminent locations next to the protest route in what police consider to be a harmonized attack, eleven officers were shot, five of whom are dead.
Police stated, one suspect is now in custody, who had been in an encounter with Dallas Swat officers and a suspect has also surrendered. It was considered as the lethal single attack on law enforcement since the 2001 terror attacks, when 72 officers died, according to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund.
Barack Obama, President of United States stated early Friday morning while talking in Warsaw, Poland for a NATO summit, calling the shootings "a vicious, calculated, and despicable attack on law enforcement and a wrenching reminder of the sacrifices they make for us on a daily basis.” Though he did comment that when people are armed with powerful weapons, it makes attacks like these more deadly and more tragic and today, our focus is on the victims and their families.
