HYDERABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 14th Jul, 2025) Hyderabad received first monsoon showers on Monday with the cloudburst partially inundating many areas and main roads in City, Latifabad and Qasimabad talukas.
One person died and 3 were injured in a rain triggered collapse of the roof of a shop in the Timber Market area in downtown City taluka.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department recorded up to 53 millimeters of heavy showers which fell for around half an hour.
The Sakhi Pir police station, in whose limits the incident happened, informed that Naek Muhammad, son of Abdul Rehman who belonged to Naushehro Feroze district, died while Nazim Chaang, Farzand Ali and Roshan Ali were injured.
The dead body and the injured were shifted to Liaquat University Hospital (LUH).
Meanwhile, widespread power outages instantly followed the rainfall throughout the city with the authorities of Hyderabad Water and Sewerage Corporation (HWSC) complaining that their drainage pumping stations had stalled due to the outages.
The spokesman of Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (HESCO) did not share information about the number of electric feeders which were closed due to the rain or about any faults that might have occurred in the transmission system.
The citizens of Hyderabad shared video on social media showing the localities like Haider Chowk, Station Road, Thandi Sarak, many areas of Latifabad and Qasimabad submerged under ankle to knee deep water, making it difficult for motorists to commute.
The traders claimed that they had suffered losses because the sewage-mixed rainwater entered their shops and warehouses.
The Sindh CM Syed Murad Ali Shah took notice of inundation of many areas in Hyderabad.
He took briefing from Mayor of Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (HMC) Kashif Ali Shoro who apprised him that due to the outages the drainage pumping stations of HWSC had stopped functioning.
The CM also spoke to Commissioner Bilal Ahmed Memon and directed him to remain in the field to supervise the drainage exercise.
