Largest ANF Drug Rehabilitation Center Under Construction At

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 23th August, 2016) : The largest Model Addiction Treatment and Rehabilitation Center (MATRC) of Anti Narcotics Force (ANF) with a capacity of 100 beds is under construction at Peshawar. It would be the largest drug rehabilitation hospital of the country as currently ANF is running three MATRCs, one each at Islamabad, Quetta and Karachi with the capacity of maximum 55 patients for rehabilitation of drug addicts. Official sources said the MATRCs Islamabad and Quetta centers have 45 beds each, and funded with the financial assistance of government, while MATRC Karachi with a capacity of 55 beds is being run on self help basis with donors support.
These treatment centers, they told APP, provide free of charge treatment, boarding and lodging facilities to drug addicts. These centers are model hospitals and undertake treatment protocol approved by the government. The Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) MATTC with an in house capacity of 45 patients was established at Thanda Pani, Lehtrar Road, Islamabad, which has now been shifted to Model Town, Industrial Area, Islamabad.
The center was working since 2005 with capacity to provide free of charge medical treatment and rehabilitation drug addicts.
The centre has been converted from development budget to non-development budget i.e.
established on permanent footing with effect from July 1, 2014. In Quetta a 45 bedded Model Addiction Treatment and Rehabilitation Centre was established at Chaman Housing Scheme, Airport Road, Quetta.
This centre has been working since 2005 with capacity to provide free of cost medical treatment and rehabilitation to 360 drug addict per year. The centre has been converted from development budget to non-development budget i.e established on permanent footing with effect from July 1, 2014. In Karachi a 55 bedded Model Addiction Treatment and Rehabilitation Centre was established in May 2010.
The centre is situated at Kalri (Lyari), Karachi. The centre is working with a capacity to provide free of charge medical treatment and rehabilitation to 440 drug addicts per year. No regular funding was being provided to this centre and it was being run on funds received from various donors time to time, sources said.
In addition, Female and Juvenile drug treatment ward is also under construction at MATRC Karachi.
