LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 25th july, 2016) : The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Tuesday dismissed a plea of an alleged terrorist for transfer of his jail trial from Multan to Lahore. LHC Chief Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah heard the petition filed by Qari Rehmat Ullah, allegedly associated with a banned organisation. During the proceeding, the petitioner's counsel, arguing before the court, submitted that Counter Terrorism Department had registered different cases against his client.
He pointed out that a case was pending against the accused with Anti-terrorism Court (ATC) Lahore, wherein the LHC had stayed the ATC from concluding the case. He said that ATC Multan was hearing an explosive materials case against the accused at Multan Jail and it was extremely difficult for the wife of the accused to travel Multan from Lahore to pursue the case, along a minor child.
He requested the court to issue order for the transfer of jail trial to Lahore. However, Additional Prosecutor General Punjab Abdul Samad opposed the request and submitted that the trial court had already recorded statements of four witnesses and it had to record statements of only two more witnesses. He contended that the trial was being conducted smoothly and if it was transferred to Lahore then it would have to be heard again. The court after hearing arguments of all parties dismissed the petition.
