NCAI Prepares Various AI Based Applications For Disaster Management, Security

PESHAWAR, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 27th Jul, 2025) The National Centre of Artificial Intelligence (NCAI) established at University of Engineering & Technology Peshawar has prepared several Artificial Intelligence (AI) based applications for different fields including early warning systems for flood, earthquake, landslide and safe city project.

“The centre was inaugurated in 2018 with the funding from Planning Commission of Pakistan under the umbrella of Higher education Commission (HEC) and within few years of its operation has now also introduced Bachelor of Science (BS) programme in Artificial Intelligence (AI),” informs Engr Mosa Khan, Manager Field Operation NCAI.

Talking to APP, Engr Mosa said the NCAI was launched to target AI fundamental and applied science applications for different sectors.

The particular sectors we are targeting here in Peshawar is disaster management, mineral resources stimulations and the health care.

In disaster management, we are targeting two areas including natural disasters like flood for which we have prepared early warning system.

Similarly, early warning systems for earthquake and landslides have also been prepared by NCAI, Engr Mosa continued.

NCAI is in contact with Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) for implementation of these early warning systems whose algorithm has been developed and implementation is pending.

The second one sector for which AI solution is prepared is security sector by preparing safe city programme which can detect various kinds of malicious activities including threats, weapon detection, any kind of fight and any kind of border security.

Our province has been the target of militancy and terrorism therefore special focus was given on improving security system in the region on modern lines.

Our system has the feature of face recognition and face expression detection to judge the intention of an approaching person, Dr. Mosa added.

We are not only using someone else algorithm for applied sciences rather we are providing the fundamental artificial intelligence and producing new algorithm, he claims.

We have so far introduced more than 10 algorithm that has been used across the world. We have filed six national patents while our centre has published more than 100 research articles and arranged six national and international workshops in various cities.
