NDMA advisory warns of landslide threat across Northern Pakistan

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 22nd Jul, 2025) The National Emergencies Operation Center (NEOC) of the NDMA has issued a landslide alert for northern regions of the country, citing projected monsoon rains and potential slope destabilization across vulnerable areas.

According to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) advisory, all provincial disaster management authorities, rescue teams, and humanitarian partners have been instructed to mobilize emergency resources and ensure standby readiness across vulnerable areas. Authorities have been placed on high alert for swift deployment in case of slope failure or any weather-induced incident.

Residents and travelers in northern regions have been urged to avoid steep or unstable slopes and remain vigilant. Citizens are also advised to follow official instructions and download the Pakistan NDMA Disaster Alert App for real-time updates and safety guidance.

Based on meteorological projections cited by NDMA, isolated rainfall is expected across various valleys in Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu & Kashmir, including Gilgit, Skardu, Hunza, Astore, Diamir, Ghanche, Muzaffarabad, Neelum Valley, Haveli, Bagh, and Poonch. Widespread heavy rainfall is also forecast in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, particularly in Chitral, Dir, Kohistan, and surrounding mountainous zones.

The advisory further highlights specific high-risk points vulnerable to landslides, mudslides, rockfalls, and ground subsidence. Notable locations include Kolai Palas (RD 180), Lower and Upper Kohistan (RD 200–240), Tatta Pani (RD 360), Jaglot (RD 480), Nagar (RD 460–480), Hunza (RD 520–540), Rondu, Skardu at JSR, and multiple sites in Chitral.
