LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 13th Jul, 2025) Punjab Police, in a decisive move to curb the dangerous practice of kite flying and the use of metallic string, has intensified its province-wide crackdown to eliminate this life-threatening activity.
According to the Punjab Police spokesperson, on the direction of Inspector General Police Dr Usman Anwar, strict enforcement of the Anti-Kite Flying Act continues across Punjab, including Lahore. So far in 2025, 4,425 individuals have been arrested and 4,341 FIRs registered in connection with kite flying and the use or sale of metallic string. Police have also recovered 469,892 kites and 17,671 spools of metallic string, while challans in 3,871 cases have been submitted for legal proceedings.
In Lahore alone, police arrested 1,206 offenders, registered 1,175 cases, and seized 27,612 kites along with 1,393 spools of string. The capital remains a key focus of operations, given the high risk posed to public safety.
IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar has issued strict instructions for the full implementation of the Amended Kite Flying Prohibition Bill. He directed RPOs, CPOs, and DPOs to accelerate action against kite flyers, manufacturers, and sellers, especially those involved in online sales of banned items. “There will be no leniency for those endangering lives through this unlawful activity,” said Dr. Usman Anwar. “A zero-tolerance policy must be adopted against all individuals involved in the manufacture, sale, and use of kites and metallic string.”
He appealed to parents to play a responsible role by discouraging children from engaging in kite flying, which has already resulted in tragic injuries and fatalities. The public is urged to report any such activity by immediately calling Police Helpline 15.
