Pakistan refuses to share points with India after WCL 2025 cancelled match

WCL organizers awarded one point each to both teams — a decision that has sparked strong objections from Pakistan side

KARACHI: (UrduPoint/UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News-July 23rd, 2025) A fresh controversy has erupted between Pakistan and India in the ongoing World Championship of Legends 2025, as the Pakistan Champions have refused to share points with India for a cancelled group-stage match.

The highly anticipated encounter between the arch-rivals was scheduled to take place earlier this week but was called off after several Indian players reportedly refused to take the field, citing ongoing political tensions between the two countries.

Despite the cancellation, tournament organizers awarded one point each to both teams — a decision that has sparked strong objections from the Pakistan side.

Officials from the Pakistan Champions have argued that the match was not canceled due to weather or technical issues, but solely because of the Indian players’ unwillingness to participate. “If the Indian team chose not to play, why should they be awarded a point?” questioned a senior official from the Pakistan camp, adding that this decision undermines the spirit of fair competition.

Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi also criticized the move and condemned the Indian players’ actions. “We came here to play cricket. politics should stay out of sports,” Afridi said. “A player should be an ambassador of peace and sportsmanship, not a symbol of prejudice.”

He further called the Indian players’ behavior unprofessional, saying, “If they had no intention of playing, they should have informed the organizers beforehand. Attending practice sessions and then refusing to play the match is irresponsible.”

The Pakistan team is now urging tournament officials to revisit the decision and award full points to Pakistan instead of splitting them between the two teams. The controversy has raised questions over the consistency of tournament rules and the role of political influence in international sports events.
