A viral image claiming Pakistan women’s cricket captain Fatima Sana touched Indian player Smriti Mandhana’s feet after a match has been proven fake and AI-generated.
ISLAMABAD: (UrduPoint/UrduPoint / UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News-Oct,17, 2025) A photo circulating on social media claiming that Pakistan women’s cricket team captain Fatima Sana touched the feet of Indian cricketer Smriti Mandhana after a World Cup match has been confirmed to be fake and created using artificial intelligence (AI).
The image went viral across platforms like X (formerly Twitter) and Facebook, with users alleging that it was taken after the October 5 ICC Women’s World Cup match between Pakistan and India. The false claim was first shared by an Indian social media user on October 6, and later spread widely online.
However, fact-checking investigations and digital forensic tools have confirmed that no such incident occurred during the match, and the image was AI-generated. Footage and commentary from the full match also revealed no moment resembling the viral image.
Fact-checkers concluded that the photo is entirely fabricated and does not depict any real event. The viral claim circulating on social media is false and misleading.
