MinTex Trains 6,000 Master Trainer For Cotton Growers Training

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 26th july,2016) : Ministry of Textile Industry has so far trained about 6,000 master trainers in collaboration with other partners and stakeholder in order to boost the cotton production in the country. The ministry has also devised a strategy to train about 20,000 cotton growers across the country in order to enhance output of the major cash crop of the season, said Cotton Commissioner in Ministry of Textile Industry, Dr.
Khalid Abdullah. Talking to APP here on Tuesday, he said, the initiative is being taken to enhance per acre crop production by using the innovative and modernized cultivation system, He said the master trainers were selected from village and union council level and they would impart training to cotton growers at their door steps besides creating awareness about the crop, he added. They would also educate them about the better crop sowing, management, use of quality seeds, fertilizers and pesticides in order to minimize the input cost and maximizing the farm's income, he added. Dr.
Abdullah said, the farmers would also be educated and trained about post harvest crop management and clean picking system in order to enhance the price of their produces by producing the pollution free crop.
Besides, the Ministry is also starting Short Messing Service (SMS) for farmers to inform them about the weather conditions and prevailing prices trends in local as well as international markets, he added. The Cotton Commissioner said, electronic boards would also be established for updating the farmers about the daily local as well international prices of the commodity. Giving the overview of the cotton crop, he said, the Sindh province has achieved its sowing targets of the season, whereas crop sowing registered 14 percent decrease in Punjab Province. He said, due to improving price trend of the commodity in local market which had reached to Rs 3,000 per 40 kg and application of better crop management, the gap would be fulfilled. Dr.
Abdullah said, the government has also reduced the price of different crop inputs including fertilizers and pesticides, adding that notification to this effect was also issued. He said, this step of the government would also help in enhancing the crop output in the country.
