MANSEHRA, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 25th Jul, 2025) Deputy Commissioner (DC) Mansehra Friday praised the Sukki Kinari Hydropower Station’s performance and acknowledged its meaningful role in boosting the local economy and community welfare.
He expressed these views during a visit of the station. The DC further said that Sukki Kinari hydropower is a key project under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), as part of an exchange and inspection tour.
He was accompanied by representatives from SK Hydro (Private) Limited, military personnel, and other officials. During the visit, SK Hydro (Private) Limited expressed heartfelt appreciation to the Mansehra administration and the Government of Pakistan for their continued support.
The company noted that the SK Hydropower Station has been operating smoothly since its commercial launch on September 14, 2024, and continues to increase its electricity output, significantly helping to reduce power shortages in the country.
The company also highlighted its focus on sustainable development and social responsibility. It shared that it had constructed a 5,000 square meter high-standard trout hatchery and handed it over to the local community free of charge.
Additionally, it has planted more than 150,000 trees over the past seven years, provided over 6,000 direct jobs during peak construction, and continues to employ more than 150 local staff after the project's completion. SK Hydro has also funded key infrastructure developments, including a relocated section of the N-15 highway, several bridges, and the Khan Area Government Service Center, all of which have improved local connectivity and services.
The company has further contributed to disaster relief by donating to the Prime Minister’s Office for Flood Relief and has continuously supported education and culture through programs such as the “SK love and Help Students” initiative, as well as organizing painting and speech competitions.
He assured that the Mansehra government would continue to facilitate the company in resolving any operational challenges and would ensure a secure and supportive environment around the project site.
He also encouraged SK Hydro (Private) Limited to continue expanding clean energy production, create more job opportunities, and help improve local income levels. Following the meeting, the DC also visited the plant and the switching station.
During the visit, technical experts from SK Hydro (Private) Limited provided detailed briefings on the core technologies used in the plant, smart system applications, efficient management practices, and the close cooperation between Chinese and Pakistani engineers working on the project.
The SK Hydropower Station, funded and built by China Energy Overseas Investment Co Ltd, is considered a flagship green energy initiative in Pakistan and has earned the title of “Green Pearl” of CPEC. Beyond powering homes and businesses, the project has fostered deep collaboration between China and Pakistan and stands as a strong symbol of friendship and shared progress between the two nations.
