Gilani urges joint efforts to fight hepatitis

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 27th Jul, 2025) Senate Chairman Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani on Sunday called hepatitis a “silent but dangerous disease” and stressed the need for early detection and preventive steps to stop its spread in Pakistan.

In a message marking World Hepatitis Day, he raised concern over the rising number of Hepatitis B and C cases, calling the situation serious and alarming.

He said a united national response and strong public involvement—both at the Federal and provincial levels—were needed to tackle the growing threat.

Gilani stated that the Senate prioritises public health and is fulfilling its role by enacting laws and closely monitoring efforts through its relevant committees.

He blamed weak health services, low-quality medical equipment, and lack of public awareness as key reasons behind the spread of hepatitis. He said these issues could only be fixed through better policies and mass awareness campaigns.

Appreciating the work of doctors, medical staff, hospitals, and civil society, he said their role was vital in the ongoing fight against the disease.

He urged people to get tested, vaccinated, and seek treatment without delay.

Expressing hope, Gilani said that with unity, awareness, and firm action, Pakistan could become free of hepatitis shortly.
