PESHAWAR, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 15th Jul, 2025) At least six people lost their lives in various districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) over the past 24 hours due to heavy rains and lightning strikes, according to a report released by the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA).
The fatalities include a man, a woman, and four children, with incidents reported from Bajaur, Kohat, Malakand, and Khyber districts. One child was also injured, while three houses sustained partial damage due to the severe weather.
The PDMA has directed local district administrations to provide immediate relief to affected families and ensure the best possible medical care for the injured.
The authority warned that the monsoon rains are expected to continue until July 17, urging citizens and officials to take precautionary measures.
Meanwhile, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a fresh alert for potential flash floods in various regions of KP.
The alert warns that continuous rainfall may cause rivers and streams to overflow, increasing the risk of flooding.
The report further highlighted the possibility of urban flooding in cities and landslides in mountainous areas. Strong winds and hailstorms may also damage power infrastructure, the alert added.
In a separate weather event, areas including Dera Ismail Khan, Paharpur, Daraban, Proa, Panyala, and Kari Khisor experienced sudden thunderstorms and heavy downpours late last night.
The storm brought a dramatic shift in weather, breaking the intensity of the day's heat and humidity.
However, it also led to the tripping of multiple electricity feeders, resulting in prolonged power outages across several regions. Power was restored in phases after several hours.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely, advising residents to stay alert and follow safety guidelines as heavy rains are likely to persist across KP in the coming days.
