Proposal For Smaller Provinces Is Conspiracy To Eliminate Politics And Political Parties: Matiullah Jan

A senior journalist and analyst says efforts to sow hatred against politics, political parties and democracy among Pakistan’s youth are longstanding, with media owners now joining the campaign for financial gain.

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 21st Sep, 2026) Renowned journalist and anchorperson Matiullah Jan, commenting on a drama clip advising young people to distance themselves from politics, said that efforts to sow hatred of politics, democracy and the Constitution among Pakistan’s youth had a long history.

He said Ashir Azeem’s film ‘Maalik’ was a prime example of a narrative that glorified anti-democratic and extrajudicial actions. In his analysis on the social media platform X, Matiullah Jan wrote that proposals for smaller provinces or autonomous administrative units were being introduced to eliminate politics and political parties in the country.

He said Ashir Azeem’s film ‘Maalik’, made with the cooperation of the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) and later banned, was entirely based on an anti-politician, anti-democracy and anti-judiciary narrative, portraying security personnel involved in extrajudicial killings as heroes.

Referring to the film’s story, he said it included negative portrayals of the Sindh chief minister, the impression of the judiciary’s failure and scenes in which a retired military officer established a private court and dispensed justice.

He said these elements promoted rebellion against the Constitution and law. Matiullah Jan alleged that Ashir Azeem made the film as an instrument of the establishment and then fled the country. The film was first banned by the Sindh government and later by the Federal government. The senior journalist said media organisations and owners had now also become part of this old trend, alienating the younger generation from democracy and fundamental human rights for financial interests.

He said that in the past, after watching the film ‘Maalik’ with Waheed Murad, he had wanted to host a programme about the film on Waqt TV, but his live programme was stopped from Lahore because Ashir Azeem backed out at the last moment and a member of the PML-N’s censor board also fled.
