LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 29th Jul, 2025) An enforcement team of the Punjab Food Authority (PFA) sealed a snacks unit and imposed a heavy fine on another during inspection raids in the city area on Tuesday.

PFA’s food safety teams, under the directions of Director General Muhammad Asim Javaid, discarded a large quantity of used, substandard cooking oil and prohibited food colours during the operation. Sealed unit had previously been issued warnings but failed to comply with food safety standards.

The DG said that the unit was found with extremely poor sanitation, including food items placed directly on broken floors, use of rusty utensils and substandard frying oil.

The premises were also infested with rats, lizards and flies. Workers lacked verified medical fitness and unregistered packaging labels were being used. He added that PFA is taking strict action against violators of food safety laws and warned that such units will face complete shutdown. He further stated that only those operating in line with the regulations will benefit from the authority’s public-friendly policies.

The DG added that all stages of food handling from preparation to delivery are being strictly monitored to ensure public health and safety.
