River Indus, Kabul Continue To Run In Low Flood

ISLAMABAD,(UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 21st july,2016) : The Federal Flood Commission (FFC) has said that River Indus in ''Kalabagh - Chashma", "Chashma - Taunsa" and ''Taunsa- Guddu'' Reaches and River Kabul in ''Warsak - Nowshera'' Reach continue to run in low flood.
According to daily FFC report, other main rivers including River Jhelum, Chenab, Ravi and Sutlej are flowing normal. The actual river flows and reservoir elevations indicates that Tarbela and Mangla reservoirs are at elevations of 1519.45 feet and 1226.95 feet respectively, which are 30.55 feet & 15.05 feet below their respective Maximum Conservation Levels of 1550.00 feet and 1242.00 feet.
The combined live storage capacity of Tarbela, Chashma & Mangla reservoirs is 11.000 MAF as compared to last year’s 11.899 MAF. According to Flood Forecasting Division, Lahore, yesterday’s trough of Westerly Wave over Northern parts of Iran lies over Northern parts of Afghanistan.
Seasonal Low continues to prevail over Northern Balochistan. T As predicted by the Flood Forecasting Division, Lahore, mainly dry weather is expected over most parts of the country during the next 24 hours.
However, isolated thunderstorm/ rain may occur over the upper catchments of Rivers Indus, Jhelum, Chenab, Ravi & Sutlej including Kashmir, North & Northeastern Punjab (Rawalpindi, Gujranwala & Lahore Divisions) and D.G.
Khan Division, besides, Northeastern Balochistan during the same period. Scattered thunderstorm/ rain is also expected over the upper catchments of all the major rivers including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit Baltistan and Northeastern Balochistan during the next 48 hours.
No significant rainfall event has been reported by the Flood Forecasting Division, Lahore during the past 24 hours.
