PESHAWAR, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 14th Jul, 2025) On the special instructions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Minister for Local Government, Arshad Ayub Khan, all concerned departments have been put on alert. Following the heavy rains on 13 July in Peshawar and other parts of the province.
Institutions operating under the Department of Local Government, Elections and Rural Development, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have taken immediate and effective measures, and teams remained active in the field to handle any emergency situation.
According to the Peshawar Development Authority (PDA) report, around 4 PM, heavy rain and strong winds led to water accumulation on roads in various areas of Hayatabad; however, no blockage or obstruction was reported in any drain.
All stagnant water was drained within 2 to 3 hours after the rain stopped. Locations where water accumulated included Bagh Naran Chowk, PSO Pump Phase 3, Phase 4 Underpass, Aramco Pump Phase 5, Tatara Park Chowk, near Zarghoni Mosque, and some roads in Phase 1, Sector D-1.
As per the report of Town Municipal Administration (TMA) Landi Kotal, conditions remained normal in Tehsil Landi Kotal as well.
Water and Sanitation Services Peshawar (WSSP) launched a comprehensive planning and emergency response campaign during the monsoon, which included drainage, cleaning, solid waste transfer, and public awareness efforts.
Across the city, dewatering pumps, jetting and suction machines, excavation machinery, and other necessary equipment were promptly deployed. In all zones, after identifying low-lying and rain-affected areas, the cleaning of drains and removal of solid waste was completed on an emergency basis, which helped prevent major losses or emergency situations.
Minister for Local Government Arshad Ayub Khan appreciated the performance of the institutions, stating that the safety and convenience of citizens during the monsoon is top priority, and all departments should remain alert to deal with any potential emergency situation promptly.
