RAWALPINDI, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 14th Jul, 2025) The Rawalpindi Waste Management Company (RWMC) was continuously carrying out cleaning and desilting operations throughout the city during the ongoing rainfall spell to ensure the smooth operation of the drainage system.

According to the RWMC spokesperson, the company's special teams remained actively engaged in cleaning drains, manholes, and drainage channels in various parts of the city.

With the help of heavy machinery and a manual workforce, mud, stones, plastic, and other waste materials were removed to ensure uninterrupted water flow during rainfall.

Under this campaign, a special cleanliness operation was underway in commercial areas, residential localities, markets, parks, and densely populated zones.

He said that Company officers and field staff were inspecting daily and sharply identifying and resolving drainage-related issues.

Highlighting the importance of public cooperation, RWMC has appealed to citizens to avoid dumping garbage, construction debris, or household waste into drains, as such practices clog the drainage system, resulting in stagnant water and potentially causing urban flooding.

He said that social and mobilisation teams were distributing pamphlets, making announcements in mosques, and engaging community leaders in various areas to create awareness about the importance of cleanliness.

He said that awareness lectures and cleanliness-related activities were being organised in schools and colleges to encourage environmentally responsible behaviour among the youth.

The RWMC urged citizens to cooperate with sanitation workers and report those involved in dumping waste into drains, at helpline 1139.
