Pakistan China Joint Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCJCCI) has welcomed and expressed its full support for the Government of Balochistan’s initiative to develop a low-cost housing scheme for fishing community in Gwadar
LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 5th Aug, 2026) Pakistan China Joint Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCJCCI) has welcomed and expressed its full support for the Government of Balochistan’s initiative to develop a low-cost housing scheme for fishing community in Gwadar.
PCJCCI President Nazir Hussain here Wednesday described the initiative as a landmark step towards inclusive development, social welfare, and the long-term success of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
The provincial government, he added, has initiated the demarcation of land for the project, which aims to provide affordable housing to low-income fishermen in Gwadar. The housing scheme, estimated to cost Rs 2.44 billion, will be developed on more than 200 acres of land allocated by the Government of Baluchistan. Situated near the intersection of Jiwani and Awaran Avenues, close to the Gwadar sports Complex, the project will include approximately 2,970 residential plots, each measuring 120 square yards, for eligible fishermen and their families.
Nazir Hussain stated, the project reflects the government's commitment to ensuring that the benefits of CPEC and Gwadar's development directly reach the local population. He said that providing secure and affordable housing to fishermen will improve their quality of life, strengthen social stability, and create an enabling environment for sustainable economic growth. He added that inclusive development is essential for transforming Gwadar into a modern international port city where local communities become active stakeholders in economic progress.
He further appreciated the Government of Baluchistan for prioritizing the welfare of the fishing community, which has played a vital role in Gwadar's economy for generations.
