RAWALPINDI, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 22nd Jul, 2025) Rawalpindi's health authorities reported 3,555 suspected dengue cases for 2025 of which 17 have been laboratory-confirmed. According to the update released by the District Health Authority (DHA), the vector surveillance efforts continue across the district during which indoor inspections conducted in 24,707 houses identified 1,068 as positive for dengue larvae, with 1,172 positive containers. Potohar Town (Peri-Urban) recorded the highest concentration of indoor breeding sites, with 336 positive houses and 384 positive containers. Rawalpindi Cantonment also showed significant indoor positivity with 244 houses and 257 containers.

Outdoor surveillance checked 7,354 spots, finding 152 positive with 167 positive containers. Municipal Corporation Rawalpindi reported the highest numbers in this category, with 49 positive spots and 60 positive containers.

Responding to detected breeding sites, a total of 12,356 larva cases have been recorded during the last 24 hours. The overall Case Response (CR) percentage stands at 97%, with only 367 cases still pending.

The Potohar Rural has the lowest CR at 93%, with six pending cases, while Kahuta, Kallar Syeddan, Taxilla, and Taxilla Cantonment have all achieved a 100% CR, indicating no pending larva cases.

The Breteau Index (BI) which shows active larvae/ eggs per 100 houses/containers per square meter, a measure of mosquito density, remains a key indicator for targeted interventions.

According to the report currently, 38 Union Councils (UCs) have a BI above 7, with Chaklala Cantonment (CTC-5) reporting the highest. Report further unveils that 68 UCs fall within the 3-7 BI range, including Rawalpindi Cantonment (CTR-14). Overall town performance in indoor vector surveillance shows 25,045 houses checked, with 1,075 found positive. Cantonment areas have achieved 90.88% of their target, inspecting 4,740 houses with 319 positive. Outdoor surveillance has covered 7,462 spots, with 154 found positive.

"The fight against dengue requires a collective effort, and the latest figures underscore the importance of our ongoing vigilance," said Dr. Ehsan Ghanni, CEO Rawalpindi.

He acknowledged that despite the robust response system is in place, the presence of breeding sites in our communities means the threat remains.

"I urge every citizen to actively participate by inspecting their homes and surroundings, eliminating standing water, and supporting the efforts of our health teams", he said adding that mutual cooperation is not just helpful; it is absolutely vital in protecting our families and ensuring a healthier Rawalpindi.
