Anti-Corruption Crackdown Across Punjab; Patwaris Go on Strike, Patwar Khanas Closed for 7 Days

Citizens visiting to resolve routine property matters are forced to make repeated trips to patwar khanas and land centres.

LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 10th Sep, 2026) Patwar khanas across Punjab, including Lahore, have remained completely closed for 7 consecutive days in response to the strict anti-corruption crackdown and raids launched in the province, bringing the land records and property transaction system to a standstill. According to media reports, anti-corruption teams have been continuously taking action against patwaris in various districts, including Lahore, Multan, Gujrat, Khushab and Sargodha.

In protest against the crackdown, patwaris have suspended work, causing serious difficulties for the public. It has been reported that the processing of land transfers, ownership copies (fards) and registrations has remained completely suspended for the past week.

Citizens visiting to settle routine financial and property matters are being forced to make repeated trips to patwar khanas and land centres, while the relevant staff is either absent or on strike. Sources said the Anti-Corruption Establishment raided various patwar khanas in Multan, Gujrat, Khushab and Sargodha over complaints of bribery and irregularities, seized records and registered several cases.

However, after patwaris and revenue staff suspended work, tensions between the provincial administration and the department intensified. In the absence of alternative arrangements by the administration, ordinary citizens are facing severe difficulties.
