Fazl says Khyber Pakhtunkhwa cannot afford political turmoil

JUI-F chief says his suggestion will be for a change to come in KP, and if a change does occur, it should come from within Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)

PESHAWAR: (UrduPoint/UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News-July 12nd, 2025) Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has said that his suggestion would be for a change to come in the province, and if a change does occur, it should come from within Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

While addressing a press conference in Peshawar, Maulana Fazlur Rehman said that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province cannot afford political turmoil.

He said that any decision regarding the province would be made in consultation with the party. “My suggestion is that a change should come in the province, and if it does, it should come from within PTI,” he reiterated.

Commenting on the Senate, he said, “I cannot comment yet on what kind of adjustments will take place.”

Fazlur Rehman stated that the merger of FATA was a wrong decision, which all parties must accept. “A grand tribal jirga will reconvene tomorrow. We will consult them. We had earlier tried to make decisions based on the advice of FATA elders. Merger was not the goal; the matter was about the political future of the tribes. A proposal for merger came, and we said no—give the tribes the authority. Consultation with tribal elders regarding FATA is essential,” he emphasized.

He further said, “How many Pashtuns and provincial members are in the committee formed for FATA? The committee has asked for Names from JUI-F and recognized us as a stakeholder. The funds of our province are being used merely to gain perks. Whenever a child in KP or Balochistan is subjected to oppression, I consider them my own. It's been eight years and not even a patwari (land record officer) can go to FATA. No one has done more million marches than JUI-F; we held a million march in Peshawar to boost public morale.”

Maulana Fazlur Rehman also said, “Politicians do go to jail, but movements are not just for release—they are for great causes. We have differences with PPP, PML-N, and ANP but no enmity. There is no enmity between PTI and JUI-F either, though there has been a bitter past between us.”

Regarding the peace and order in Peshawar, he said, “If the opposition wants to talk, we are ready to sit and discuss. All political parties must accept that they lack political foresight. The dacoits rule in Sindh; three provinces are engulfed in insecurity. The rulers are busy enjoying luxuries and lining their own pockets while the poor are suffering from terrorism,”
