Governor Kundi assures resolution of KP CNG issues with federation

PESHAWAR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 7th May, 2026) Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi on Thursday said the rights and issues of the province should be addressed collectively, emphasizing that political point scoring must be avoided in matters concerning public welfare and provincial interests.

He expressed these views during a meeting with a delegation of the All Pakistan CNG Association KP led by its president Pervaiz Khan Khattak at Governor House.

The delegation informed the Governor about the ongoing concerns of the CNG sector and ongoing protests related to gas supply issues. They said the CNG sector contributes around Rs6 billion to the Federal government while nearly 95 percent of public transport in the province runs on CNG.

The delegation also pointed out that despite increase in petrol and diesel prices, CNG prices had remained unchanged, creating difficulties for the sector and transporters. They urged the Governor to take up the matter with the federal government for an early resolution.

"Around 600 CNG stations in the province are closed, and thousands of people have become unemployed".

They said that at present, the CNG sector is saving up to 1.5 million liters of petroleum products, and by keeping CNG stations closed, the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the CNG sector are being economically devastated.

They said that after the repair of the Spin Wam, Shewa-1 North Waziristan, and other pipelines, CNG supply should have been restored.

However, despite this, CNG has still not been resumed for the stations.

Governor Kundi said the Pakistan Peoples Party had always played a vital role in the welfare of the people and recalled that the 18th Constitutional Amendment had strengthened provincial autonomy and transferred significant powers to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and other provinces.

He said despite the production of oil, gas and electricity in KP, the province was still facing shortages of these resources.

He added that KP possessed immense potential in tobacco, water resources and tourism, yet the province still had to seek wheat from other provinces.

The Governor said all stakeholders should take these issues seriously and raise a united voice for the rights of the province instead of indulging in political point scoring.

He said he had already raised the issue with the concerned officers in the federal government and expressed hope that the matter would be resolved soon. “If the issue is not resolved, I will stand with the people of KP,” he added.

Governor Kundi further said protest was a democratic right, however, dialogue should continue simultaneously to resolve issues amicably.

The delegation thanked the Governor for listening to their concerns and assuring them of taking up the matter with the federal authorities.
